Palin, Shmalin

Posted in Election 2008 on August 31, 2008 by Darkman

So now the Conservatives are all in a tizzy over Sarah Palin. Some who swore not to vote for McCain have finally found the out they were looking for, and are now proclaiming their allegiance to Palin.

I might be able to see their point if Palin were the actual candidate, but she isn’t. Let’s face it: the VP essentially does nothing except cast a rare tie-breaker vote for the Senate, and does anyone expect the Senate to tie on anything in the near future? The VP is mostly just a place-holder who tries not to screw up too bad so he/she can run for Pres in four or eight years time.

No matter what, we’re still screwed. No matter which one gets elected this year, this country is going to be taking a giant step backwards and I don’t see how we will ever recover.

Guilt Established

Because you own a gun.  Own.  Committing an act of unwarranted force, or even thinking about it, is irrelevant.

But as I’ve said before, we already knew that.

Endorsing Genocide at Mother Jones

So William W. Wexler of stopdubya.com states in comments at Mother Jones:

Conservatives don’t have friends and I don’t consider them to qualify for personhood.

Seriously.

So I suppose that those who aren’t part of this silly liberal/conservative dichotomy are even less worthy of personhood. After all, if those who are part of a recognized movement such as conservatism are sub-human and not fit to live, then someone outside of that dichotomy must be even less worthy.

Questions for you Willie: what about disabled conservatives? What about homosexual conservatives? What about Jewish conservatives?

You know something, Willie? This has been done before. It worked that time, and quite well, since those who were deemed not fit for personhood had no way to stop it.

Know this: There are those who take such threats against ourselves and our families seriously, and this time, we have the wherewithal to put a stop to such evil.

Spotshotter

US device that finds gunman in seconds to be tested by police:

Technology used by the US military to trace snipers in Iraq and Afghanistan is to be employed by British police to combat gun crime and terrorism.

The ShotSpotter system, already used by police in 29 cities across the US, uses patented technology to detect the exact location of gunfire or explosives within 80ft in less than seven seconds. It works by using an elaborate network of microphones placed on lamp posts, rooftops, masts and pylons in urban crime hotspots.

Four British forces are interested in using the technology to combat organised crime and gang violence: Greater Manchester, Merseyside, West Midlands and the Metropolitan Police. It will be trialled in the UK in September and in use six months later.

The sensors, grouped between 15 and 20 per square mile, recognise the sound of gunfire or mortar. Within five to seven seconds of a shot or explosion, they send signals to each other via GPS (global positioning system), locating the source through “acoustic triangulation”. Less than a second later, a parallel video system can zoom in on the same spot, potentially identifying any criminals. Within 15 seconds of the shot, a detailed message is sent to police operators.

1.  Does anyone know which 29 cities?

2.  Note:  “or armed civilian” in the article.

I don’t have anything clever or profound to say about this.  Just another article in the big stack that makes me think all is already lost, and too many just won’t admit it yet.

P.S.  “hones in on”  WTF?
